About Becoming

"When we understand whose we are,

we can become who we were created to be."

Becoming - an identity ministry, was founded by Lorraine Swart, a speaker, author, and educator with a passion for helping children, teenagers, and adults discover their true identity and sexuality within God's original design.

Based in Pretoria, South Africa, Becoming exists to equip families, schools, churches, and communities with the knowledge, confidence, and practical tools needed to navigate today's increasingly complex conversations around identity, gender, sexuality, pornography, and relationships. At its core, Becoming believes that every person is created with purpose, value, and dignity, and that understanding God's design for sexuality does not only create resilience but it brings freedom, wholeness, and hope.

The ministry's broader mission is to reduce the demand for pornography and, in turn, contribute to the fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Research consistently shows the connection between pornography consumption, sexual objectification, and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. By addressing the root issues through education, prevention, and discipleship, Becoming seeks to create lasting change that impacts both individuals and society.

Lorraine brings a unique perspective to this mission through her background in data analysis and research. She is passionate about translating complex studies, statistics, and information from a wide range of sources into practical, accessible resources that parents, educators, and young people can easily understand and apply. Her approach combines evidence-based research with biblical truth, helping audiences make informed decisions while remaining grounded in a Christian worldview.

As the author of Let's Chat, a conversation guide designed to help parents and children discuss identity, gender, sexuality, and pornography, Lorraine is committed to empowering parents to become the primary voices guiding their children through these important topics. She believes that when families have honest, age-appropriate, and faith-filled conversations, children are better equipped to navigate cultural pressures and make healthy choices.

Lorraine regularly presents workshops, seminars, and school talks on topics including:

  • How to Talk to Your Kids About Sex
  • How to Talk to Your Kids About Pornography
  • Identity and Self-Worth in a Digital Age
  • Raising Porn-Resilient Children
  • Healthy Relationships and Boundaries
  • Navigating Gender and Sexuality Conversations from a Christian Perspective
  • Becoming the man/woman God created you to be

She also hosts Awaken Daughter weekends, creating meaningful spaces for mothers and their tween daughters to explore identity, puberty, purity, self-worth, and God's purpose for their lives. These weekends are designed to strengthen the mother-daughter relationship while providing a safe, positive, and faith-based framework for discussing the transitions of adolescence.

Through speaking engagements, educational resources, workshops, and mentoring opportunities, Becoming seeks to inspire a generation to embrace God's design, walk in truth, and become who we were always meant to be! Becoming is more than a ministry - it is an invitation to grow, to heal, to discover purpose, and to become who God created us to be!

I hope you enjoy the journey of Becoming with me,
Lorraine
